Our next live course is AIM Communicating Biblical Truth: Effective Preaching and Teaching, which runs from June 29 – August 31, 202

Preaching is far, far more than constructing a three-point message, and a sermon is so much more than anecdotes, stories, and personal sharing. Expository sermons have punch and the full authority of the word of God. Without careful exposition, sermons are easily forgotten by the congregation; the preacher does not cause the word of Christ to dwell richly in the congregation (Colossians 3:16). Robinson, Stott, Goldsworthy, and Edwards (through their books) will be some of our instructors. Indeed, biblical preaching has a powerful impact (Matthew 7:28-29)! This course will help anyone (not just ministers!) to think through how to best communicate the New Testament through public speaking, teaching, and studies, with large groups, small groups, and individuals. Elevate your preaching and teaching with practical public speaking training for anyone who wishes to grow in their ability to share about the Bible with others confidently.

Over the course of 8 weeks, you will receive practical instruction and hands-on training in:

    • Crafting compelling, biblically-grounded expository sermons and lessons
    • Effectively communicating complex theological concepts
    • Engaging listeners through dynamic delivery and visual aids
    • Facilitating meaningful small group discussions
    • Providing constructive feedback to help others improve

Led by speakers and teachers who have taught all over the world for decades, this course will equip you with tools and techniques to inspire your congregation, lead transformative Bible studies, and guide meaningful dialogue. Whether you're a seasoned minister, an emerging leader, or someone looking to deepen your personal ministry, you'll leave this course with greater confidence, clarity, and creativity in your preaching, teaching, and group facilitation. Invest in your spiritual development and learn how to use your gifts to better serve your community. Enroll in Communicating Biblical Truth today.

New Testament Survey

NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY
Bible study— with an emphasis on careful teaching (2 Timothy 2:15)— constitutes nearly 40% of the course. This survey course introduces the student to the world of the New Testament, from the historical and geographical background to the culture of the first century to the formation of the New Testament itself. This course will use a variety of resources including the text of the New Testament, a textbook, multimedia online resources from the Bible Project, various resources on the Internet and live lectures.

Units: Synoptic Gospels, John, Acts, the Letters of Paul, the General Epistles, Revelation, and N.T. chronology.

We will learn about the ancient Greek manuscripts in a special workshop, learning about the complex world of manuscript copying. A powerpoint presentation colorfully illustrates the amazing history of the transmission of the N.T. through the ages. In addition to studying a conservative N.T. textbook, the student will read the entire N.T. We will also learn how to deploy 100 useful N.T. passages.

What many of us were never taught… Exegesis and hermeneutics--interpreting what a N.T. passage meant to those to whom it was written, and making a proper application to our situation today--are vital areas of theological training. There are units on exegesis of the Synoptic Gospels, Parables, Acts, Epistles, Revelation, and more. 20 useful passages and several books will be studied, including Gordon Fee's How to Read the Bible For All Its Worth.

Imagen del curso AIM NT Exegesis: Exploring the Book of Hebrews
AIM New Testament Module
PayPal

An exegetically sound exposition of the New Testament book of Hebrews.  The book of Hebrews is a fine example of early Christian teaching written to warn, instruct, and encourage early Christians with a Jewish background who were facing persecution and considering returning to non-Christian Judaism. Hebrews conclusively demonstrates through scriptural arguments that Christ is superior to everything that served to train and introduce people to Christ. Hebrews also contains excellent instruction to believers on the basics of the Christian faith and explains clearly how the Old and New covenants work together.

Join Tom Jones, Joey Harris, and Douglas Jacoby for an in-depth exploration and exegesis of the New Testament book of Hebrews. Learning the lessons of Hebrews will strengthen our faith in God, provide encouragement in the face of doubt, and equip believers with a solid basis for the background of early Christian teaching.

Fewer than 10% of Christians have read the entire Old Testament. This is due largely to unfamiliarity with the O.T. world and lack of much-needed training. This survey course introduces the student to the world of the Old Testament, from the historical and geographical background to the formation of the Old Testament itself. Units: Law, Prophets, Wisdom Literature, Psalms, Historical Books, Chronology, the Apocrypha, and more. We will study ancient Hebrew and Aramaic manuscripts in a special workshop, diving into the complex world of manuscript copying. A powerpoint presentation will colorfully illustrate the amazing history of the transmission of the O.T. through the ages. Learn the story of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Learn also about an upcoming opportunity to visit Israel with your congregation. In addition to studying a conservative O.T. textbook, the student will have read the entire O.T. by the time he or she graduates from AIM--as well as the location of 100 useful passages. An exegetically sound exposition of the Old Testament book of Amos. Amos is the first of the great writing prophets. From his early days as a humble shepherd in the southern Judah, Amos is called by God to be a prophet to the neighboring northern (and enemy) nation of Israel. Writing during the years immediately preceding the fall of the Israel (722 BC), Amos prophesied impending judgment upon both Israel and Judah-- as well as on the surrounding nations-- for their egregious sins against human rights and oppression of the poor and helpless.

Join Tom Jones, Joey Harris, and Douglas Jacoby for an in-depth look at the meaning of Amos. Learning the lessons of Amos will strengthen our faith in God, provide encouragement in the face of injustice, and equip believers with a solid knowledge of Old Testament prophecy. Amos gives us a glimpse of the heart of God towards all who are oppressed.

Christian Counseling is a much neglected discipline. And yet everyone looks to church leaders for guidance and counsel. This means that the leader must be well equipped and prudent--especially in this day and age. Study the classical personality types (choleric, phlegmatic, sanguine, melancholic). Also learn the ABCs of pastoral counseling--when to advise and when to refer, working with professionals when necessary. Learn about Family Systems and other invaluable approaches. This short course aims to equip us to equip the body of Christ to be "competent to counsel." When is a condition a medical matter, and when is the issue "unrepented sin"? Should we ever advise church members to come off their medication? What should we do when the thin line between responsibility and victimization seems tenuous at best? Learn from Drs. Mike and Mary Shapiro, clinical psychologists with extensive experience in counseling and forensic psychology. Counseling is not an option; it is a crucial area of ministerial training.

The Bible places far more emphasis on who we are inside than how we behave or appear to others. We have all seen too many people we know fall, not rebounding but remaining fallen, due to a weak walk with the Lord--while others continue to go forward to do great things despite formidable obstacles.

Are you looking to strengthen your relationship with God and deepen your understanding of Christian spirituality? Look no further than the AIM Spiritual Life Course, an online course designed to enhance and guide your spiritual journey. The course covers character, sexual issues, financial responsibility (guest speaker), spiritual disciplines such as fasting, prayer, meditation, scripture, devotional reading, and so much more—the secret of mirroring Christ's character: the inner spiritual life.

Teachers include Douglas Jacoby, Joey Harris, Fred Faller, Arturro Elizarraras, Greg Garcia, and Tom and Sheila Jones. At our kickoff live session on August 12, 2023, you will learn from experienced spiritual directors Jim and Lindsay Long and engage in interactive exercises to help you apply these practices to your daily life.

OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY

Instructors: Joseph Harris & Douglas Jacoby

“These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”

1 Corinthians 10:11-12 NIV

Fewer than 10% of Christians have read the entire Old Testament. This is due largely to

unfamiliarity with the O.T. world and lack of training. This survey course introduces the world of the Old Testament, from the historical and geographical background to the formation of the Old Testament itself. Learn the Law, Prophets, Wisdom Literature, Psalms, Historical Books, Chronology, Apocrypha, and more. Learn the story of the Dead Sea Scrolls. In addition to the required reading, the student will have read the entire O.T. by the time he or she graduates from AIM—as well as the location of 100 useful passages. Field trip: synagogue visit / lecture by a Rabbi.

"Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." 1 Timothy 4:16, NIV

Paul instructs his protégé Timothy to watch and persevere in his life and doctrine (i.e., teaching, what we believe ourselves and teach to others) and in so doing to save himself and those he instructs.  Historically, believers have often struggled with this dynamic tension of orthodoxy (i.e., right belief, or right teaching) and orthopraxy (i.e., right practice or behavior).  Biblically, we are to have both.  While the AIM Spiritual Life course focuses more on orthopraxy, AIM Healthy Doctrine highlights orthodoxy, or sound biblical doctrines and beliefs by giving an overview of major doctrinal belief systems and worldview within Christianity and showing where they are biblical and where they might be unbiblical or erroneous.

A major component of this course is pneumatology, the study of doctrines related to the Holy Spirit.  [Note: this course may be taken as an equivalent to the AIM Holy Spirit course].  In addition overviews of the basic beliefs and worldview of pentecostalism, Calvinism and Arminianism, Mormonism, Catholicism and Protestantism, Sabbatarianism, Messianic and Judaic Christianity, New Age Movements, postmodernism, liberal theology, fundamentalism, prosperity theology, the megachurch movement, and several influential doctrinal systems developed in America will all be covered in this course.

We will also learn how to deploy 100 useful N.T. passages.

Jesus and Paul, as well as Robinson and Keller (through their books)  will be some of our instructors. Indeed, biblical preaching has a powerful impact (Matthew 7:28-29)!

AIM/ASOM CHRISTIAN EVIDENCES

"...in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander." 1 Peter 3:15-16, NIV

Is the Christian faith a matter of personal opinion and subjective experience, or is it based on solid, verifiable evidence? Is truth like beauty—“in the eyes of the beholder”—or does the Bible’s description of reality apply to everyone? Regardless of your initial response to questions like these, you need accurate information in order to find intelligent and helpful answers.

In a non-Christian world, where faith is challenged and disinformation is rampant, apologetics is essential. If we are to reach the majority of the world’s population, who do not share our Christian presuppositions, we must adapt our thinking to their needs. Apologetics has always served a vital role in building faith. Other beneficiaries of apologetics are the younger generation, even those who have grown up in the church. Thus getting a handle on Christian evidences enables us to connect not only with outsiders, but also insiders.

This course introduces the student to Christian evidences, from the Creation/Evolution debate to Archaeology to Theodicy (the problem of suffering)—and much more! You will learn how to put together convincing presentations for unbelievers, and make apologetics a part of your own personal ministry. (Also valuable in campus ministry, teen ministry.)

GOAL OF THE COURSE
Exposure to the major areas of Christian apologetics, with mastery of basic evidences arguments, to equip the student to defend his faith and make a strong case for Christianity.

Christian Counseling is a much neglected discipline. And yet everyone looks to church leaders for guidance and counsel. This means that the leader must be well equipped and prudent —especially in this day and age. Study the classical personality types (choleric, phlegmatic, sanguine, melancholic). Also learn the ABCs of pastoral counseling—when to advise and when to refer, working with professionals when necessary. Learn about Family Systems and other invaluable approaches. This short course aims to equip us to equip the body of Christ to be “competent to counsel.” When is a condition a medical matter, and when is the issue “unrepented sin”? Should we ever advise church members to come off their medication? What should we do when the thin line between responsibility and victimization seems tenuous at best? Learn from Drs. Mike and Mary Shapiro, clinical psychologists with extensive experience in counseling and forensic psychology. Counseling is not an option; it is a crucial area of ministerial training. The goal: to come to view persons, in the context of counseling and evangelism, as whole persons—spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.

ECH CoverEarly church history is a new and strange world to many Christians. It’s understood that the apostles wrote the inspired New Testament, but most are unaware of the volumes of material wriiten by Christians in the first four centuries of the church. Though uninspired, they give us valuable insights into understanding what the early Chrisitans believed and how they put their faith into practice. This series will challenge your assumptions, increase your knowledge, inspire you, and call you to emulate the faith of the early believers.

This series contains over 8 hours of online video teaching from a weekend seminar–held September 19-21, 2008–on Patristics, the study of the early church Fathers, with author David Berçot, Douglas Jacoby, Joey Harris, and Steve Staten.

Lectures include the World of the Patristic Writers, the Evolution of Early Christianity, 1 Clement, Ignatius, Irenaeus, and Sectarianism. There is also a Question and Answer session with all four teachers.

Introduction to the Series (Douglas Jacoby)
1. The Evolution of Christendom (David Bercot)
2. 1 Clement: The Corinthian Connection (Douglas Jacoby)
3. Ignatius of Antioch: The Episcopacy and Structural Unity (Joseph Harris)
4. Irenaeus: Standard-bearer for Orthodoxy (Steven Staten)
5. The Spirit of Sectarianism (David Bercot)
6. Q&A Session (Harris/Bercot/Jacoby/Staten)
7. The Church and the World (David Bercot)

AIM Old Testament Exegesis 2014:
Justice in the Gate: A Study of the Book of Amos

Course Description: An exegetically sound exposition of the Old Testament book of Amos.

DESCRIPTION
The Bible places far more emphasis on who we are inside than on how we behave or appear to others. We have all seen too many comrades-in-arms fall, not rebounding but remaining fallen, due to a weak walk with the Lord—while others continue to go forward to do great things despite formidable obstacles. The course covers character, sexual issues, financial responsibility (guest speaker), and so much more. The secret of God’s preacher: the inner spiritual life.

GOAL OF THE COURSE
To shift the focus of ministerial training from personality and performance to true Christian character.
